Hey guys and gals, I know we are all here for ice fishing but I wanted to share my interest with all of you that even though the season may be coming to a close it would be wonderful to continue to share and be sociable durring the off season. Good luck to all and be safe out there

I agree with you Russ. Fishing doesn't come to an end just because there is no ice.   ;D

Good point Russ and with that I would like to present a challenge to everyone. As many of you are I am a great believer in teaching children to fish. My most rewarding trips in the summer are when a strange child walks up and my boys and I rig up a pole and help them fish, some for the first time. My 8 yr old Brett won a batman pole in a raffle at a kids tournament in July, walked up to me and said he had outgrown that type of pole. He didnt wait for me to offer advice instead he walked straight over to a young boy in a stroller and presented the rod to him. The boys parents were in tears to think Brett would give up something he had just won. So guys and gals our children to learn from our actions!

                                             THE CHALLENGE
  For those who can buy one cheap pole be it a Zebco 202 or a garage sale find and when you're at your favorite fishing hole, or taking your boat out of the water pick one child playing there with their family and take 10 minutes and teach him or her to fish, leaving the pole and a small case of basics with them. I guarantee the smile you will get will be something you will remember the rest of your life. I would also encourage to report of your experience on IFO and we can all share the in the experience.

davek, thats a great idea, and i may just do that.
turkey09, sorry we never hooked up. the season is never long enough for me. maybe next year.
russ, it was nice to meet you, (after the fact). your little one sure is a cutie. i have a grandaughter about the same age. i can't wait to take her.

My fishing IS coming to an end b/c I'm strictly an ICE FISHERMAN.  Unfortunately my spare time during the "soft-water months" is taken up with gardening & backpacking.

If the opportunity arises to help some kids and/or groups, then I'd certainly participate; otherwise, the poles, shanty, clothing & other winter ice fishing gear & tackle will be stored until next season.
