Best friend went icefishing this past weekend, went by himself and to be honest he really has never icefished in his life. He bought some gear and thought he give it a try. Well his first time out was almost his last, the big dummy went out on a lake never checked anything and by luck or chance he walked be a group of guys who were in close to shore. He thought he'd walk on the main lake and thats when he fell through in 15' of water. To listen to him tell you , his eyes teared up and he said all he thought  about was losing his life ICEFISHING. He said he screamed for his life and basically gave up until that group he passed heard him and saved his life.Luckily they had a rope and threw it to him because he said he gave up and was at peace with dying when they showed up. This was in southern Ohio and they don't get good ice anyways but with a few precautions (i.e) spud bar he might never have went through. So remember you can be Billy Bad @ss icefisherman but when you go through you soon turn into Billy Boy wishing you were somewhere else!!!!

The season is at the end and we had a great one. Lets not push it and have a tragic end. This is the time to be very safe!

Thanks for sharing your story. Got my ice water bath last season and now won't go on the ice....early season/middle season/or end of season.....at all, without wearing my Arctic Armour floation suit.......This isn't a commercial for their product.....but a testimonial from someone who has been in the water and "lady luck" was watching....and I don't want to take the chance that "she" might be lookin the wrong way next time.....I have convinced several of my friends to invest in their safety as well.......and they all too wear Arctic Armour"  ....Still some fishin here in our part of the state......not over here yet... Have fished on 12 to 15 inches of ice with some soft or water strewn surfaces.....DO BE SAFE AND CHECK THINGS OUT AS YOU GO........And use the basic rule of not fishing alone.

As some of the ice is still good this time of the year and the temps are warmer we don't wear as much so take your life vest with you when you strip down.

Thankfully he is able to tell his story. I am sure he learned the hard way to respect the ice and how fast it can change. Ice is very unpredictable. As the others stated be safe.
