A little ditty I read I thought was cool (Thick and blue,tried and true) (thin and crispy,way to risky). That first ice use your spudbar.good luck and be safe.

Very true!  It's very important to be careful, especially at first and last ice.  I always spud when I'm on the ice.  Went thru twice.  Can never be too safe!

Regardless of when, DO be SAFE ! You can bet I will be thumping the ice with the spud bar, rope in hand, "cat`s claws' up my sleeves, and a hefty friend on the other end of the rope. As has been mentioned 1st and last ice are the most dangerous and remember to AVOID buckled ice...
