how much time do you spend in your set up shanty? i only spend 5-10% of my fishing time in my shanty. i usually pull my 2  man because i like the seat. most of the time i am setting outside hole hopping.

Great Question after all these years I said why are you hauling a 90 lb. shanty when you hardly fish in it.  I decided this year to get a lightweight hub popup and most of the time that will only be used on Erie if that ever sets up.  Otherswise inland lakes with back to the wind with the Focus 5 propane heater cooking and good layered clothes.  Made a big change but I think I made the right choice.

I am in my shanty 99% of the time. The other 1% is when nature calls. ;D

In the last 5 years I probably only set up my shanty 5 times. Usually I just use it as a sled to pull my stuff. Also I use it as a home base. I'll start off fishing a spot and then leave some of my stuff and shanty there while I move around looking for a better spot. I am looking for a flip over style this year so it is easier to set up a shanty if I want to use it.

Love the flip-up style.  Mine's a 2 man.  Love it because it's a gear sled with padded seats.  It also has a feature where I can set the canvas up at a 90 degree angle to the ice and use it as a windbreak.  But as for fishing in the shanty, very rarely, unless 1-it's snowing or raining hard, or 2-I'm on a good bite and can stay in there and bust 'em.  Otherwise my ice fishing suit keeps me warm, and most importantly, mobile.
