I used to when I was a kid.  I would take 2 BB's from my gun, tap them in with a hammer into a 2x4 block of wood so they would leave an indentation like the ant head and body.  Then I would lay a small bluegill hook over the dimples and fill the indents with solder.  I would paint them when they cooled down.  They were very ugly, but I was a kid and had no money! ;D

Yes I make ant jigs.  Work well for gills on the ice.  I make black ant, fire ant, cinnamon ant, and other colors.  If you're interested reply to this and I'll post some pics after work.

Here is a pic.  The tiny one is a black ant.  The fire ant is the normal size I use.  I put a small lead wire under the dubbing that gives it the ant shape and the weight.  I prefer that over using lead for the body because the dubbing looks more real.  Let me know what you think!  I make these to sell as a hobby also.  :)  I can make any size, from a tiny 26 up to a shark hook sized ant. That'd be 1 huge ant! ;D

Here are some of the ice ants I hand crafted.  Once you do a bunch of them you get the design and paint schemes down.  Good little hobby for nights like tonight.  I like to heat up the lead in a toaster oven and then dip them in powder paint.  That way you can do about 20 in one crack with one color scheme and then move onto the next.

Those are some nice looking ants.  I've made them with lead also and had good success.
