as we all know braided line has little or no stretch and when it get colder there is even less stretch.  I made the mistake by spooling all braided line onto my reel the last couple of seasons, as a result when I would get a hook up on a saugeye my line would slip on the spool and I would miss several fish. It wasn't until early this spring  I read  that if you spool 10-12 wraps of mono followed by a half spool of braided you will not have line slippage during cold winters. Just a little helpful hint.

Did you connect to two lines or just lay the mono down then tie the braided on top?

Thanks.  Just in time.  I am spooling all my rods and tipups today.

Typically you connect the 2, but I don't see why that wouldn't work.  It'll bite down on the mono either way.

normally if you use the little triangle on the spool to start the wind up, and wind it as tight as you can , very tight, it has minimum oops factor..i have braid on almost all my rods ...and i love it...it does have a slight learning curve as far as the knots and feel, and its non forgiving with tangle knots but i love it...also it has a tendency to float...
the time you spend fishing cannot be deducted from your life...
