Just bought some teflon runners for my shanty.  Noticed one of the corners getting a little beat up.  Will this make it easier to pull on the ice?  I know it'll give my shanty more life, but will pulling thru snow be easier, or am I getting my hopes up?  Never used the runners before.

I mounted some old snow skis under my frabil hut. Pulls like dream. I also put a longer rope that also helped. The skis keep it on top of the snow. I used a 2x2 between the sled and skis.

That's a good idea.  Never thought of that.  But don't have any skis either.  Can check craigslist.

please guys , i have been getting my skis at the goodwill for years . just go to the thrift stores and look around , they have went up to about 10 bucks, used to be 5,,, i think i bought to many so they raised the price  hahahah..........oh be sure you look for the narrow long down hill ones  very light compared to the wider slalom ones.....
the time you spend fishing cannot be deducted from your life...

..Just installed a set of Hyfax runners (3 runners)  that I purchased from Mark's Bait & Tackle on the Clam Nanook.

I'm sure they'll help in pulling the shanty across bare ground & roads, let alone snow covered terrain.

Not sure, but looks like next week things change.  Old Man Winter just running late this year.  Maybe means he'll stick around longer and we'll have good ice deeper into March! ;D

I'm not sure if the runners will help make it easier puling in the snow. I put my runners on as I assembled my shanty last season. They will definitely keep the tub from wearing out. Its a lot cheaper to replace runners then to replace the tub.

That's what I was thinking.  My tub is a year old and already showing some wear, and last year I didn't fish as much due to work.  I know this season I'd wear it out.  The runners were $40 and much cheaper and faster to install than replacing my tub.  I was hoping pulling in the snow would be easier, but assumed it was a pipe dream.  Pulling a sled full of as much gear as I take would only be easy with a quad or snowmobile. ;D

It would be nice to be able to use a quad to haul gear around our lakes. I really dont want to have to take the canvas and poles off my sled to replace the tub. That would be a huge pain in the butt. Im think of making some kind of runners with electrical conduit that can fold up on each side of the sled for pulling thru deep snow.

That'd be a good idea.  I didn't want to take the poles and canvas off either.  Took me 3 hours to put it together when I got it.  Not worth it when the runners are cheap and simple.  Just a pain pulling thru the snows we get (usually) here.

Last Season, 2010-2011, I ice fished NE Ohio inland lakes Dec 19th - March 10th.

Last year was a pretty good season for ice fishing Ohio.  Looks like we're gonna lose nearly a month this season.
