mon., tues., & wed. temps look good for dayton area but thurs. & fri. highs aren't too good. if a good base of ice starts it should still make ice underneath. hopefully whatever melts refreezes & stays clear ice. hopefully by the middle of next week safe ice will be on the shallow ponds & lakes.

i bought the clam kenai 1 man last year. some of the bolts broke during assembly. i didn't like the small bench seat with no back on it (switched 1 of my swivel seats from my guide ), & the way the seat bracket is made you sit with your feet on the ice. my guide has tubes where you can slide back enough to have your feet in the sled. the apron pole goes straight out, wish it angled downward before going out to help keep the wind out. i will get it modified to suit me. i like it only weighs 50 lbs & has alot of room to fish that's why i bought it.

got tired of pulling my clam guide (85 lbs. unloaded) or trying to carry everything i needed so i looked at sleds last year. ended up buying a 2ft. by 3 ft. mixing tray at lowes for around $12.00. hols 2 buckets, heater, vexilar & i bungy my auger on it. had to drill 2 holes and tie a rope on it. works great.

how much time do you spend in your set up shanty? i only spend 5-10% of my fishing time in my shanty. i usually pull my 2 man because i like the seat. most of the time i am setting outside hole hopping.

my buddy from marblehead said the bite last weekend was phenominal. limits of big fish were being caught on all the pier. wish i was there but same old story, always a week late. if the weather is stable this weekend the fish may bite again.

walleyes are starting to be caught from lakeside pier & catawba. not hot & heavy yet but the bite has started. water temp. off of marblehead is 47 deg. so it shouldn't be much longer.

didn't get there until after dark. was told there was a 15 min bite right before dark where about 15 fish were caught. 3 of us fished until about 11:00 & ended up with 14 keepers & a few throwbacks. saw about 20-25 fish caught. #12 clown husky jerk was the hot bait with a steady retrieve.we only fished moundwood. a friend was up earlier in a boat & had 3 keepers at northfork. all our keepers were in the 15-20" range.

walleye.com has a good short vidio about the different vexilar units & the different transducers. should help on deciding which unit is right for someone looking to buy one.

has anyone used the fan/light by Clam? was wondering how much air the fan circulated & how bright the light is. I would mostly use it in my 1 man shanty.

my buddies went today. late start (about 2:20). went out of catawba toward port clinton. went about 1 mile to the shove on snowmobiles. 16" ice where they were. 1 lost fish. fishing in 12 ft of water. air boat cptn. had 1 fish from around green island & said ice on other side of shove was only 3" thick & airboat was breaking through. they said they saw 1 snowmobile & 1 quad past the shove. they should get an earlier start tomorrow & have a more complete report.

talked with a fellow at the mouth at blackhawk sat. during the gettogther that said you aren't allowed to fish delaware this year. he was getting ready to go fishing and a park ranger told him not to. the lake was drawn down after it froze. like i said, a 2nd hand story. before going call the park office to see if fishing is allowed. be safe

went & checked erie out today. 1 airboat went out of catawba today. the north wind has the ice mostly pushed back in. hopefully the weather will stay cold enough for it to refreeze by next weekend. the ice around shore was still walkable. a couple of guys were off mazuric but didn't get a chance to see if they caught anything. whites landing had about a foot wide crack about 50 yrds. in front of it. nobody was fishing it. still has 4-5 inches of ice & some water on top where holes have eroded in the ice (might have been where old holes had been drilled). i'll post more when i hear anything. should still be able to fish put in bay if you fly over & hire a guide. too bad you can only carry 1 bucket on the plane (that's what it used to be - i haven't flown over in 4 or 5 years).
