My tip would be read up on Ice safety. Then to prepare themself for that infectious disease that wont allow you to drive by bait and tackle stores this time of year without stopping and usually spending money much to the significant others dismay. This will more than likely affect them for the rest of their life much as it does the rest of us.

OK guys here it is highs near 40 for the next 2 days then nothing above freezing in the foreseeable future lows in the teens to near 10. 1st day on the ice last year was the 7th, might be cutting it close this year. Balsam Lake which is just Northeast of the Twin Cities should have good ice by the middle of next week. I hope to head that way on the 11th. I'll keep everyone posted Be Safe and Teach a child to fish this season. Dave

Pete, I pd 50.00 plus 15 in shipping they are a half in thick and 2 inches wide the material is the same they use for snowmobile runners. I could never find dimendios for the runners sold by the sporting goods stores in fact all of them I contacted had none available for the voyager. I got them from Paul Kaufman you can contact him at " [email protected] " He was great to deal with and stayed in constant touch, they came with hardware all you need to do is heat them up to form them around the front of the sled Dave

Like Tim I started using the brkely gulp this year with a lot of luck. 2 seasons ago I was fishing first ice with my buddies we were on white bass and they were limiting out in a couple of hours I was lucky to have a fish or two on the ice. I had read somewhere that rubbing salt on your hands does something to attract the fish. I tried it and my production went way up. I was the one to always handle the vent on the auger though I was careful I am sure I did get some gas on my hands which is suppose to be a turnoff. Ironically all of my fishing buddies smoke like chimneys which I always thought was a turnoff. Does anyone have any thoughts on this Dave

Very well put I hate to admit it but I was one of those who wondered about those nuts on the ice everyday in 02 and 03 when I drove 70 miles north to Lacrosse wi for therapy after my accident. It wasn't until 2006 when I was looking for a winter activity for the boys and I that I became one of those nuts. One of the main reasons I have stayed here in Wisconsin is the extended Ice Season we have here. Dave

It sounds like a lot of us take our children, grandchildren nieces and nephews out, so lets all remember they need a refresher course to and if they are like my 8 yr old Brett that refresher course is handy each time out and a few times during the day. As we approach first ice please be safe and Teach a Kid to Fish SAFELY. God Bless Dave

The Block O is badly torn from 10 years of Flying in the heavy winds that can hit here in SW Wisconsin, but She still flies proudly. I dnot have the Heart to replace her, She first flew when The Buckeyes Beat Jake the Snake in the Rose Bowl, and saw a National Championship the day after my youngest son Brett was born. Go Bucks
