Bait and Tackle stores / F & S Bait Farm - Near Kiser Lake
« on: February 01, 2010, 09:25:51 PM »
F & S Bait Farm is just 1/10 of a mile south of 36 on Alcony Conover Rd. It is about seven miles from Kiser Lake, but to the best of my knowledge there is no bait shop closer. This place is all about live bait and nothing else. No tackle to speak of just live bait. They will really load you up for next to nothing. I have paid for three dozen minnows and routinely get 6 dozen plus. Today I bought 100 spikes for $2.00. They are a bait distributor that sells live bait to area bait shops so they aren't too concerned about loading you up because they have plenty of bait on hand. Just my opinion! Not much of a place to look at, but a lot for your money. 567-242-9805 (I know, weird phone number) 7880 N Alcony Conover Rd Conover, OH 45317

Indian Lake / Re: Ice today?

Blackhawk is at Indian Lake. It is on the north side and they catch saugeye and pan fish. I don't know how much ice there is.

Kiser Lake State Park / Ice Condition Report
« on: January 27, 2010, 08:46:51 PM »
I was hoping to get out for a few hours today, but it wasn't meant to be because the ice was in bad shape. Most of the lake had about 5 feet of open water between the shore and the lake ice. Some areas had even more open water. Some areas had skim ice, but it has a long way to go before it will hold a person. There were some spots that had shore ice, but when I stuck it with my spud bar it when right on through. One area held my weight, but the spud when through about 4 feet from shore. I noticed a lot of ponds today that were entirely open water. Sorry for the bad report!  :(

Lima Lake / Re: ice thickness
« on: January 20, 2010, 09:41:03 PM »
I was there today, Wed, and fished until 12:30 with Russ then fished by myself until 3. Nice meeting you Russ and thanks for showing me around. Unfortunately, I didn't catch many keeper fish. One to be exact! A nice trout, but I did catch a lot of small fish, gills, crappie, perch and trout. I believe a guy could drill a hole anywhere on that lake and catch a fish or two. In fact, that is what I did today. Every hole I drilled I pulled a fish from. Too bad they were all small. Ice thickness should not be an issue tomorrow. Like Russ said, we had a solid nine inches everywhere today. It was popping and cracking all day making ice. Good Luck!

Lima Lake / Re: Ice

I am intrigued about Lima Lake. I have never fished it or any of the other lakes in Lima. Would it be worth an hour trip to give it a try? I get the feeling that a lot of guys from Lima would rather head to Indian rather than fish Lima Lake. Is that the case? It seems like Lima Lake has it all, perch, saugeye, gills, crappie and trout. Why would you go anywhere else with Lima Lake in your back yard? Just wondering....  By the way, any advise for someone who has never been there but wants to give it a try. Oh yea, how has the fishing been? Thanks!
