They say 25 here for East Canton. Rods and electronics ready to go. Gettin the shanty out and dusted off this weekend. Freeze baby, freeze. Can't wait to get on the ice. Only downside is I burn more wood-which is more work cutting and splitting. It's all worth it though when you drill that first hole of the season!!!

I cant take this warm weather anymore. I am going crazy. I hope the forecast is wrong and it gets even colder. My cousin in law is stationed at Eielson AFB 23 miles south of Fairbanks Alaska and it was -40 degrees the other day. I think I need to move up there.

We're starting to seriously look at water temperature now. Indian Lake is holding at 34 degrees right now. That's a great sign, but we still have a long way to go as of right now.
The avg. daily temps won't remain below 32 for at least another 8 days. We'll need some serious subarctic weather in order for ice to be any good before the 20th. Snow, rain and wind will likely hamper ice making during that time.
I'll stick with my prediction of December 21st, but I'm afraid that even then I'm looking at a long shot.

if it was below freezing, how many days does it take to freeze to safe ice?

depends on the size of the body of water. takes longer for larger bodies of water unlike ponds. as for how long, i dont know. week or so.

Looks like Indian Lake might get going on ice this next week. Temps are dropping!!! Hope they stay down and don't come back up!! No snow for awhile either!! Then only light snow after a GOOD freeze.
