Out Of State Ice Fishing Trips / Re: bolles harbor mi
« on: January 13, 2014, 07:09:23 AM »
Was up that way yesterday for the Fishing show in Novi. On the way home we swung into Bolles. There were probably 15-20 vehicles in the lot and as many shanties/buckets on the ice. Did not speak to anyone so not sure on a report.
Is it typical to pull mainly dinks up at Bolles or can the fishing be decent there??

I have been to both, and @ Simcoe you WILL catch fish like the photos above at LSC you MIGHT. PS Simcoe has Whitefish also!
I would agree. A lot of dinks at LSC. Simcoe better chance @ consistent pig perch

He should be referring to the long island in Indian Lake. I have GPS coords, I would be more than happy to share if you would like, that's what this site is all about anyways...isn't it??!

Lake Erie / Re: Lake Erie is locking up
« on: January 03, 2014, 09:47:23 AM »
Open water??? Or ice. Never ever have I seen anyone ice fishing over that way. That area is the last to freeze and first to open. Plus with the entire east end of the lake hitting the shoreline there, you get alot of bad ice. I could not recommend fishing that area.

Well an update for you guys, like I said. Used the  HB 597 ci HD up in Michigan. Pretty impressed with the unit overall. Picked up the smallest of jigs and fish. Was amazed at the image the screen was putting out. Zero lag and buket fished for a good two-three hours with zero issue. Ran the screen brightness on 6 of 10 and had over three quarters of the battery left at the end of the day.
Picked up fish in the weeds, out of the weeds and where ever I went. I am using the ice ducer sytem with ice pack and it was a pretty good set up.
I would suggest this unit to anyone especially someone looking to use one unit for year round use. (easily can convert to ice fishing and soft water by pulling it out of it's pack)

I have fished Saginaw in the past and it is fun for sure.
I can tell you that you can get walleye in close, it seems earlier in the season. When we have fished there we have travelled several miles out to get to fish.
We have a buddy who e3ssentially lives on the ice on the bay. We won't go out without him as we find there are alot of pressure cracks and shove ice to cross, at times they freeze tight and others you have to hit them pretty fast to ensure you get over them. It all depends on the weather and temps.
I have been told that the conditions now have the ice locked in pretty good and the cracks are tight. Ice was 5-7 inches as of the 30th. Buddy had gotten some fish that day but had not heard any thing from him recently.
KPI usually gets more updates from him than me so maybe he could update you.
I can tell you at times quad travel on the bay becomes near impossible but if you can get it it could be rewarding.
If you need more info just PM me or post your questions here. I am by no means a Saginaw expert but know travel can get rough but conditions were pretty good recently. Google michigan sportsmen and they have a thread dedicated to Sag Bay, plus they discuss Simcoe alot as well.

I have not. May make an early morning trip Saturday to take a peak. However, if anyone is closer and is driving by a report would be nice. Both my fuel tank and this forum would appreciate it!!
