General Discussion / Vexilar Tri-beam Transducer

Whats everyones opinions of these? would it be benificial to update from a 12degree on my FL18? are they worth it($100 @ Cabelas). I'm mainly fishing less that 20 fow i figure it would help me out. its a little over a foot bigger radius @10ft than a 12 degree. the 9degree is 1.6 ft radius at 10ft i'm hoping that when i am fishing where there is alot of fish that the 9degree will let the vex read clearer than the wider transducers       ???maybe??? i know they just came out for this season but i have some giftcards from last year to use, i just wanted some opinions on them before i buy one.

Let it Freeze, you have to have it on your shanty no matter where you are fishing. this is from the ODNR website.

ICE ANGLERS may use holes no larger than 12 inches in diameter. In Lake Erie ice anglers may use holes no larger than 12 inches in width. Ice anglers may not use more than 6 tip-ups and 2 rods per person. All shelters and tip-ups must display the name and address of the owner or user in English lettering.

General Discussion / Re: Panfish tactics
« on: December 04, 2010, 11:13:45 AM »
this is probably what everyone does ;D but in case there is a newbie looking.. on a lake i am familiar with during spring and summer i go to spots that i know have weeds, rock piles, humps etc. and then drills a number of holes and use my vex to find them. then try different tactics, jigs/plastics to get the active/larger fish.

on a new lake i try and look at the dnr maps, before i go out, for a point, drop off, man made structure, or something else that may hold fish. i will also just start where i think there is weeds, or structure judging from the terrain. then i drill a few holes and start working a few different types of jigs with live bait. usually start with a pin min and spike, and twitch it lightly or give it some short bumps of the rod tip and step it up from there to find the presentation they want. pulling the bait up very slowly, or letting it fall slow always works well

General Discussion / Re: HOMEMADE ICE FISHFINDER
« on: December 01, 2010, 07:46:49 AM »
I did the same thing with a super sixty at the two years ago and used it at Alum. I could barely see my ice jig when I turned it up while I was setting my depth. Then I backed it down. I did mark fish and had a decent day. The only problem I had was the unit got cold and stopped working. I elevated it on a jig box and put the buddy heater pretty close to it and it lasted longer. I don't know if your's will act the same as mine, but if it does you can have an idea of what to do. I don't know how shallow it will work, I was in 20fow at Alum. I didn't use it anymore i found it to be a hassel, so i saved up the money and bought a vex before last season. Good Luck!
