Well my friends, I obviously didn't jinx the season by starting this thread. I've been getting out at different locations the last being New London Res. The ice was a solid 9 inches of hard black ice. Between 3 of us we didn't fair well at all. Maybe it's just a case of learning the lake. My best outings so far have been farm ponds. We're heading to Pymatuning next week for the very first time ever. Does anyone know where a good point of entry would be? I'm not looking for anyone's spot ( I'll find them on my own) , just a parking lot to start out from.

I hope I'm not going to jinx the season. Especially since the past 2 seasons haven't been cold enough for me to step out onto the ice. But, I have to say, it's looking very encouraging!!

I have 2 ice fishing friend's that may have put the jinx on this season. One bought a new electric auger, the other built a new smitty sled. I'm struggling to determine which one to blame.

Nobody is more anxious to get out on the ice then me. But with the heavy winds that accompanied this cold snap there will be sketchy areas. Be careful out there and don't forget your ice picks! Tight lines!!!

Hit the ice for 1st time this year. Ice was decent with what looked like 4 Inches of white ice on top of 3 inches of clear. Mostly dink perch with a rare keeper. Saw 3 other people. Nice folks. Their catch wasn't any better. Still looking for a lake that holds quality panfish.

Looks like I'm not the only one who has noticed a decline in icefishohio activity. Perhaps it's due to a couple of short ice fishing seasons???

I hope I didn't jinx the season by proactively making my new smitty sled.

Fished Piedmont today. Where I fished ( near the dam) , the Ice had about 3 inches of good hard stuff covered with approximately another 4 inches of soft white ice. I was shooting for saugeye. No luck. Coming off the ice I talked to a guy that said he picked up 8 dink crappie. It looked like there may have been open water at the mouth of the marina bay. Lots of geese, swans, and ducks were congregating there.

Fished the north end today along the buoy line. 6 to 7 inches of ice. Like last year there is a tremendous crack in the ice just off of the parking lot. Getting off the ice this evening was a challenge. The crack was wide for long stretches. Be careful crossing that thing especially in the dark. We had to walk 100 yards or so south of the parking lot to find a place to cross.

Remember to put the blade covers back on the auger after each use. That snow covered wet ice is really slippery. One fall on your blades could cause serious injury.

Watched Green training ice rescue today.....ice was less than 2 inches. I got a real education on how dangerous falling in is. One young fireman couldn't pull himself out onto to ice even with ice picks. So I know as old as I am I'd be in real trouble......it was really spooky watching the ice roll like a water bed......
