I didnt know there was any other brand then Marcum.  ;D I have a Marcum LX-9 and a Marcum LX-5. I like when im in my shanty and I dont have to listen to my flasher hum all day. All I hear is the drag on my reel from the fish taking line and the water splashing when I get the fish to the hole. ;D

Mosquito Creek Reservoir / Re: Is causeway bait shop still open
« on: February 14, 2013, 05:48:37 PM »
I stopped in at A&C on Sunday to get bait. Chuck mentioned that after we left he had to take minnows up to Linda because they were running low on bait. I know that she is trying to sell the shop but the asking price being over $700,000.00 is going to be a tough sell. I heard of one guy that looked into buying it and tried to get a loan but the bank wouldn't give it to him because the appraisal was no where near the asking price. I would imagine that she will keep it open until it sells. If you were to get a loan the payment would be around 4-5000.00 a month for a 30 year loan. You would have to sell a whole lot of minnows, waxworms and maggots to make that payment. I hope that the causeway is able to stay open. I really like that shop and and they are always very friendly. Always willing to help point you in the right direction to catch fish. I know that with the last 2 ice fishing seasons being a bust it has really hurt all of the bait shops in the area. If they were to close up shop they would be added to the ever growing list of bait shops that have shut down in the last several years. I also still have a 25.00 gift certificate that I need to redeem so they cant shut down yet.

General Discussion / Re: sick of it!
« on: February 01, 2013, 12:31:07 AM »
Im sick of it too. As much as Im sick about the weather I even more sick of hearing the same moaning and groaning everyday. It is what it is. We live in Ohio and we have to play the cards we are dealt. Some seasons are great and some are bust. This season is better then last season so lets be happy with what we got. If you want to have that perfect long season this aint the place. Maybe those who are unhappy should sell all there gear to people who would love to have it and are happy to get out on the days they can get out or packup all your stuff and move to somewhere colder. We have all complained on here from time to time but it seems anymore that everytime I look at my unread post half of them are people complaining about one thing or another. Its almost always the same people. When this site started it was a great place and everybody was positive no matter what. That moral overall has gone down because a few are bringing everyone down. A few bad apples will ruin the whole bunch. Its got to the point that I dont even want to get on here anymore but I continue to because there is still some good here and there is always new fisherman that need help and I like to help if I can and I am still learning new things all the time myself. That is the entire reason im here. I wish that the people that like to complain would think before they post. What kind of example are you setting for everyone else. If I was a newbie and researching ice fishing and I seen all these negitive post I would just forget about ice fishing. Just figure that there is never any ice around and why waste my money for something that I will never get to do. I now understand why most of the original pro staff doesnt post anymore. They got tired of this way before me. I get nothing out of being a pro staff but the satisfaction of helping further this sport and help teach the new guys whatever I can. I dont get paid to be a prostaff member. I barely get a few promo items and that isnt very much anyways but I dont care about that. I want to continue on but I am done being a prostaff member here. I will still post fishing reports and help answer questions but as for being a IFO Prostaff member im done. All the other prostaff guys can have it because I dont want it anymore. Ive struggled thru this season trying to hang on but enough is enough. There is a few other reasons that im leaving the prostaff and Im not getting into that here but I have tried to get some things changed and not much happens so I will leave that at that. Im am sure I am ruffling some feathers by saying all this but if any of you feel that im aiming this towards you then maybe you should reevaluate what you are doing and why do you feel that way. Think about why you got into this sport in the beginning and why are you the way you are now. I want to get back to the time where it was just me, my friends, the ice and the fish. No other b.s. about it. Just go and have a all around good time with my friends not worrying about what everyone else thinks or who can post in every topic on here or who did this or that and what they think about something that has nothing to do with me or what I do. That is why I am going back to being a regular member just like when I joined this site. I do want to thank 99% of you for the good time that I did have being a prostaff member. I have made some great life long friendships here and hope to continue them and also make new friends.

General Discussion / Re: No ice , bought more lures.
« on: January 31, 2013, 11:01:10 PM »
I buy all my lead from the scrap yards. I go thru around 5,000 -10,000 lbs a year. Im just always looking for a new line on lead. Sometimes the scrapyards dont have as much as I need. Im not big on wheel weights. There are way to many steal weights mixed in these days. If I was just pouring a few sinkers for myself I wouldnt mind but Im running a business. If I buy 100 lbs of wheel weight and I get 50 lbs of steal I lose money. I have had times where I bought 100 lbs. and only got 7 1/2 lbs of lead. Im paying people to buy my sinkers then. Thats why I stick to sheet lead and chunks if all possible. Thank you for your offer Snowcone. If I ever get in a bind I will give you a call.

I cant wait to hear what you think of them. I like that they have good craftsmanship behind them and they probably have a really good drag on them buts thats a lot of dough for a reel.

Those razor reels are nice but at 90 bucks a pop i dont think so. I understand they are milled and not cast but I still dont see it. If it was geared I may look at getting one. On top of that there size is very large. The reel itself has a four inch diameter plus another 2-3 inchs added for additional handle length. It would stick out 6-7 inchs from the rod. If they gave me one I would try it but I dont think I would drop 90 bucks on something I dont think I would like or take up so much space

WingFoot Lake / Re: Charity Ice Fishing Event!!!

My wife and I will be there ice or no ice and we hope to see you all at this event. This is for a great cause and we are excited to go. Im looking forward to seeing members that I have already meet and meeting new friends. Seeing that there will likely be no safe ice around Saturday there is no reason everybody shouldn't be there. Please come out and support a great cause, eat some food, chances at some great prizes and meet some new friends.

It is a event that Big Daddy is doing for Harvest for Hunger. It is 10.00 per person or team. If we fish the winner gets bragging rights and I believe a trophy because all the money is going to charity. Here is the info I copy and pasted from his post

2nd Annual Ice Out Hunger Icefishing Tournament
WHERE: Wingfoot State Park
WHEN: February 2, 2013 7:30AM til 2:30PM
WHY: To help the Akron Canton Foodbank restock their shelves after the bust Holiday season
COST: Entry fee is $10 per 1 or 2 person team. 100% of fees collected go to the foodbank.

This is a "bragging rights" event. There will be trophies given to the top 3 places in ADULTS (16 and over) and KIDS (15 and younger)

Entering the event will get you a raffle ticket for a door prize from one of our sponsors: Mogadore Bait and Tackle, Portage Lakes Bait and Tackle, Gone Fishin' Bait and Tackle, Finny's Custom Rods, and Ice Fish Ohio. If you would like to donate a prize to our raffle, give me a call or shoot me an email [email protected]

This is an "AT YOUR OWN RISK" event. There will be a safety talk prior to heading out on the ice. If the ice is deemed unsafe, we will still hold the awards/prize giveaway party.

This event is about giving back and helping those in need. We have a lot of sponsors who have stepped up including JoAnn Fabric and Craft stores, WKYC, Inside the Great Outdoors Radio, www.ohiogamefishing.com, www.icefishohio.com plus those I mentioned above.

Registrations are the morning of the event starting at 6AM at the PINETREE LODGE at Wingfoot State Park in Suffield, Ohio.

If you have ANY questions, email me at [email protected] and I will get back with you. Thanks!

Welcome to IceFishOhio / Re: New to ice fish Ohio
« on: January 30, 2013, 06:41:47 PM »
I use one like in the link below. There is several different makes and models on the market. Just google ice fishing chisel. You can also use a construction spud bar or breaker bar. I just dont like the construction ones because they are to heavy to be carrying around all day. When Im walking on the ice I will hit the ice in the same spot 2-3 times every 3 or 4 steps. If it doesnt go thru the ice you should be good to go. I have never gone thru the ice when I spudded my way around and I am a large man myself. It definitly beats stopping to drill a hole every 50 feet and its a lot safer because you are not traveling that far with out testing the ice.

Ice Gear for Sale / Re: tackle

Look up Pishtech Ice Fishing Derby computer game. Its a good way to do what you love when you cant get out and waste some time when there is no ice. In the summer when I have to go out of town for work and Im in the hotel by myself I will crank the a.c. all the way up making it freezing cold and play the game.  ;D
