Temps for the next 2 weeks look great foe making ice. Now all we need is for the wind to die down so ice can be made. Hope we don't get snow util we have at least 6 inches of ice too. Hope we will be on ice this coming weekend but should definitely be on ice the following weekend. Make sure spud your way out and carry your safety gear. Be safe and enjoy.

Yeah I just got out of the deer blind. Wasnt bad in the blind with mr buddy going, but I've never been so glad a deer didn't come out. I can't imagine it would be much fun tracking and gutting one with the wind and cold. Supposed to be as bad or worse on Tuesday too >:( hope it doesn't screw up the ice formation. I would really love to be fishing next weekend

We had lots of wind and driving snow yesterday, seems to be a little calmer now....
Newbie to ice fishing but loving it!

I'm all set!   Just hope we don't get that 3-6" of snow over the next 2 days they're talking about. Wind finally stopped and the lakes can make some ice.

A blanket of snow will insulate the ice sheet. This keeps lake ice from forming, and results in the formation of snow ice. Snow ice doesn't have a linear crystalline structure and is very unstable. An inch or two of snow has little effect, but several inches will keep the ice sheet hovering right around the freezing point. Even in 0-10 degree air, the ice sheet will be much warmer due to the water volume in the lake holding residual heat.
