Have you seen this black stripe on a crappie before? This is a first for me in my pond.

Don't think I've seen a crappie like that but I've caught largemouth in the river that had similar markings. Black or dark brown splotches on em. Not sure what causes it

The elusive black magic marker crappie, very rare.
I love sports, especially one I can do sitting down!                                                                          Freshwater Drum-Life Member                                                                      Trigger-X

black nose crappie. They are not native around here, so if it were in a pond, somebody put them in there, most likely by accident with other crappie
Closest place i know that can be caught is the ohio river.

They are common down south

Thanks holehopper.  It's nice to know what I have in my pond. Makes sense since I bought Crappie from Alabama

they also wont get as big as typical black crappie, normally 10" is above average to big for the black nose.
seen a couple bigger, but they dont seem to get the size as a normal black crappie.

and they taste exactly like bald eagles...i mean any other crappie ;)
