Excited myself. I figure I’ll start finding blacks here in north central Ohio in about 10-14 days if the weather there calling for stay the same. Ground temps need to come up a handful of degrees for a week and they’ll be there like clockwork. Found first blacks here April 1st last year. I picked shrooms from April first until may 28th in area I hunt.

They have a good article in the april issue of Fur Fish Game on mushroom hunting. Wonder if you could train a dog to hunt for the them.

this weather is lookin good , cant wait to get out and get some shrooms. i really love finding those giant morels , you know the ones the size of a pop can...   but ...last year i never seen so many folks in the woods,  i always see lots of trillium when out , i hope to find some more colored ones , white is the usuall. the half frees and blacks are soon,  even finding the pheasents and other fungi was tough, seems like when i did find a good stash and waited for them to grow poof   they were gone and i was looking at  stems where they were... ugh

Same here!   I’ll be out in my woods soon.  Usually mid April I start seeing them.   I don’t seem to have a ton, but there’s a nice batch out here.   Can’t wait!
