All i use is power pro. I dont get excited when i hear guys talk about the best mono, or the best flouro... Braid to me is far superior, but it depends on your how you fish as well. I used a braid ice line for walleyes, but will use a 1 or 2lb ice mono for pan fish. Have had trouble with both building ice on the line in cold weather... so I cant pick a better on that aspect.

I just started using braid this summer for my frog fishing over grass mats. It is great.

I have never used it during the winter. Russ, do you ad a leader to it or just the Braid? I was wondering about it freezing on the spool also.

Great questions.

I WAS HOPEING TO USE THE REGULAR POWER PRO LINE IN THE WINTER BECAUSE OF THE HIGH STRENGTH AND SMALL DIAMETER. I WAS HOPING TO RUN SOME OF THIS ON MY SMALL REEL FOR  A WALLEYE /SAUGAR ROD. BUT I WASNT SURE IF THIS STUFF WOULD SOAK UP WATER AND THEN FREEZE UP. HAS ANYONE TRIED THE REGULAR POWER PRO THROUGH THE ICE?
THANKS

I just tie it right on, no leader. Never had a spool freeze either... Maybe its a possibility if your fishing 30fow and catching fish every drop... But I doubt it. The only thing you may want to consider is color... That may be the deciding factor if you think its a big deal to have the green or if you need a clear. Depending on how deep you fish...

Great,

I think i may try that this year with a swivel and leader. You defanitly will get a better hook set with the braid.

I used the 1 lb. and 2 lb. last winter with no real problems. It would sometimes get a little stiff out of the water but only when it was real cold out. I would just run my hand down the line a few times and it would loosen up.

I like the braid idea! It seems to telegraph strikes better as well. Good idea Russ!

Its funny the braid topic came up again. I was fishing the other morning and it was 26 degrees.. My rod was covered in ice, my eyelets were freezing every cast, and the braid was freezing to my spool... Thats really the first ive ever used braid on my softwater gear in that cold of temperatures.. So my question is, does that happen to you guys that use a NON braid? Im sure obviously freezing eyelets, but what about to the spool?

I use fireline and have had no problems. Fireline is all I use on my late winter spillway trips and have never had an issue with it freezing on the spool.
