Why do we go from using pretty jigs on ice to plain hooks in the spring?
For panfish, keep the ice jigs on all year round under a bobber with waxies or minnows and you'll see an imporved catch rate.
To prove my theory tie two ice jigs and a plain hook on one line with a drop shot and a slip bobber and see if the fish hit the plain hook or ice jigs more often.
I often test jig against jig in this way. Also will give you a clue as to which jigs to keep in your back pocket come ice season next year due to fish preference in the off season.
