Got to the cove around 1:30... Ice was 3 to 3 1/2 inches, but we fished it. Glad we did. Drilled a set of 4 holes and there were weeds in 3, but the one w/o really produced. Drilled another hole near that one and my friend Walt and I had a ball. Bluegills, redears, and crappie. Caught some real nice sized fish too, plus a lot of small ones. We kept 20 beauties, released the rest. Don't have an exact number as we lost count, but we had to pull between 60 and 80 fish. Look for the holes in the weeds and fish 2 inches off bottom.

Saw fishinful while scouting with my buddy. Went home, grabbed a bucket, auger, 2 rods, and some waxworms. Oh yeah, safety spikes too. Headed back to the bay. Pulled between 20 and 30 small bluegills. Going "old school" never felt better! Sitting on a bucket, no Vexilar, no shanty, listening to the snow fall and pulling fish. Off Monday and will be out again, either Mogadore or Wingfoot. Depends on what I read about today out there.

As we get ready for what the "Farmers Almanac" calls "piercing cold" this Winter, I have to share some good news. I've been accepted by Clam Corporation as a "Clam Pro". I'll be helping them promote ice fishing and their products through seminars all over Ohio. Can't wait to get on some hardwater and start drilling!

Event is still a GO! I checked the lake this AM and there was about 1/2 to 3/4 inch layer of good ice off the boat ramp. Not sure if we'll be able to fish, playing it by ear, but everyone who enters will be eligible for some great prizes... Akron Aeros tickets, a guided bass fishing trip, a Spring crappie trip with yours truly at West Branch, custom ice jigging rods from Finny's Custom Rods, and a load of tackle from Mogadore Bait and Tackle plus lots more. We may have a "PLAN B" to try and get some fishing in, but we need to be cautious here. Special thanks to JoAnn Fabric and Craft stores, Eberhart Landscaping and lawn service, the Summit Sportsmens Association.
You can register any time between 6:30AM and 2PM, so if you just want to show up for food, you'll still be in the raffle drawing. We'll be at the PineTree Lodge at Wingfoot State Park. See you tomorrow. Any last minute questions, call me at 216-346-9615.

I'm putting together an ice safety story today for WKYC and will be in the Akron area looking for ice fishers to talk with. I'm going to try to concentrate on Wingfoot, but will probably make it to Portage Lakes as well. Mogadore is an option too. If anyone would be willing to bring their safety gear and talk about it with me for the story, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, on a deadline so the sooner, the better! LOL Call me 216-346-9615 or email at [email protected]Thanks Carl Bachtel WKYC TV 3

At last year's event, there wasn't any ice so a few of the guys brought boats and fished anyway! This year, I hope the ice gets locked up again after our little warm up this week. We raised over $1800 last year, even without ice!
Regardless of ice or not, the show WILL go on. We;ll be having food (donuts in the AM with coffee) and chili and probably some kind of soup (we had turkey/rice last year) and some hot dogs and chips, soft drinks too. We'll raffle off the prizes our sponsors genorously have donated and figure out some way to award the trophies.
This is purely done to get folks out to experience the fun of ice fishing and give back a little to those in need.
Thanks for helping and I will see you there on the 2nd!
Carl
