All,

Here’s a link to some video clips I took with my Marcum Recon 5+ on Indian Lake last week:

https://youtu.be/xHUvdyUwPlc

I posted a review of the Recon 5+ in the reviews section last week. The clips were recorded during daylight so after early morning bite and before evening bite. The recording quality isn’t the best as I’m still getting the hang of recording/editing. I tried all sorts of lures and jigging techniques but couldn’t get them to bite (Made me remember I’m still a Newbie). The reaction of the fish is interesting when they sniff the bait. I thought it was a scent thing so I wore rubber gloves and still had the same thing. My thought on the Recon 5+ far is the great thing is that you can see what’s going on down there, the bad thing is that you can see what’s going on down there....

Ok, thanks guys - not sure what mine are (In know they are not colder weather boots) they have been fine for dock fishing & warmer ice conditions but last week has me thinking  that I need to look at a cold weather pair...

All,

I think we’ve all agreed that last weeks temperatures were brutal and I’m wondering how everyone’s boots held up? One-off my feet got cold due to vey cold ice. I fixed it by using a rubber mat to put my feet on. The cold foot was uncomfortable but I managed to warm it up. It’s the first time this has happened so Im putting it down to the colder weather....

So, what boots are you wearing and how did they hold up in the cold weather last week?

Indian Lake / Has anyone been out today?
« on: January 09, 2018, 07:01:19 PM »
All,

Had anyone been out today? The Sassafras Point area has standing water/slush on it. I drove to Russell’s Point earlier and saw the same in the South Side of the lake. Just wondering if the ice thickness has reduced much?

All,

The Indian Lake Area will cool down again starting Saturday 13th. It looks like any melt this week will be stopped on Saturday and we”ll see the lake making ice again.

See screen shot of forecast below...

oh yeah if ya pull an old sock up on the propane tank it makes it easier to handle when you need to change it out on the ice.

That’s a good tip - thanks for sharing...!

yepper  I have 2  buddy s   one single and another double with a fan

I have the same - I used to have the "Portable Buddy" too however; I gave it away. I don't used the Big Buddy (double) for ice fishing as the "Mr Buddy" (single) is ample for a 1 man flip. I usually have the heater on the low setting and it warms my shanty nicely. Like quackpot, I warm food on mine (pizza, hotdogs, chili etc). I agree with everyone on the trash situation - folks should be more respectful of the resources that feed them.....

Down the hole I would appreciate it..Tanker, i agree rather not rile the  private land owners. It seems parking is sparse and would'nt want to ruin it for others by not knowing any better and PO somebody.
Thanks again

byg - I’ve attached a map showing parking around Long Island....

Indian Lake / Re: Parking at Long Island
« on: January 07, 2018, 05:30:56 PM »
Is there anywhere else to legally park at long island/O'Conner's besides the bridges?  I have not been to that area for a few years.

There are a few places;

Long Island 1st Pull Off - used to access the  Pony Island side
Long Island 2nd Pull Off - used to access North Fork
Long Island Bridge (LHS of the Road) - used to access North Fork and other areas
O’Connors - used to access North Fork

I usually park at 2nd Pull Off or the Bridge.

I’ve attached a map showing rough locations....

I ended up catvhing a 17” keeper. Got schooled by Jpsh again. Overall, the day was slow, lots of marks but no bites. We fished from 6:30am - 6:00pm. We moved South of the Shanty ztown and fished closer to the right bank as you look down the channel from the bridge.

Look out on north fork, I picked up 2 yesterday morning, I re-fill mine also, they were just part of the trash being left behind. Anything from plastic bottles, chip bags, candy wrappers, lure packages, cigarette butts Mcdondalds bags, just to spot a few items I saw yesterday on the ice. A few years back the game warden on Loramie made guys go back out on the ice and police up all their trash or take the fine, this included junk fish (shad). Some may think it's no big deal but when the ice is off, those canisters don't sink or rot, they become an accident waiting to happen. Downthehole, it seems we are walking the same area, I'll be out Monday, hope to see you there and good luck on the eyes.

Sadly, I have to work Monday. I booked this week off to fish. I moved to Sassafras Point last July so this season has been the first fishing my “home” lake. Still lots to learn but the last few days have been great!

Guys,

I have some frozen walleye dated 7/1/2016 in the freezer. The fish was frozen in bags of water. I’m wondering if it’s still good to eat?

Thoughts?....thanks in advance...
