General Discussion / Good start to new years
« on: January 02, 2017, 07:33:32 AM »
Fished Rocky Fork yesterday from the docks. No ice but caught a dozen or so keeper crappies. Also got to watch the proverbial wild goose chase. 3 waterfowl hunters wounded 2 geese and were chasing them around the docks. 11 finally swam back out in the lake where they could shoot it. The other goose swam around and under the docks until 1 of the hunters was able to reach down and catch it. Was definitely entertaining.

General Discussion / Appreciate the ice reports
« on: December 29, 2016, 11:31:01 AM »
I would like to thank everyone that posts ice thickness reports. Living over an hour away from most of the lakes I fish, it gets expensive and time consuming driving that far only to find unfishable ice. Knowing thicknesses in advance helps me determine when and where to go. Thanks again and please continue with your posts.

General Discussion / Handheld GPS recomendations
« on: October 20, 2016, 08:47:32 AM »
My Lowrance handheld GPS is on its last leg. Have had it fixed twice but they quit repairing them now so I need to buy a new one. Wish they still sold the Garmin GPS12. Leaning toward a Garmin but was wondering what GPS other users have and their good and bad points.

General Discussion / Closing up the trailer
« on: October 20, 2016, 08:39:05 AM »
Trailer park at Erie is turning off the water Mon. so it's time to close my trailer. Good and sad feelings as usual. Walleyes should be moving west soon but will have to trailer the boat and take water with me. With the trailer park closing, it means ice fishing season is getting closer. Can't wait.

General Discussion / Tired of the heat
« on: August 13, 2016, 08:10:29 PM »
Really tired of this heat and humidity. Going through withdraws not being able to go fishing. I know it is summer and Aug. but we need a break soon. The farmers almanac says fall is going to be above average temps too. Oh joy, oh rapture. Come on cooler weather.

« on: May 26, 2016, 08:11:07 AM »
Hope the weather is decent this weekend at Erie. Unfortunately I left too early last Sat. Figures the weather cleared up and calmed down after I left. At least the temps will be warm.

Soft Water Fishing Reports / Rocky Fork
« on: March 27, 2016, 12:30:18 PM »
Fished Rocky Fork docks yesterday from 5 pm to 9 pm. Fishing was slow but ended up catching 8 keeper crappies, biggest 11 1/2 in, at least 1/2 doz. gills and 1 warmouth. Most fish caught on a 3/16 firetiger vibe. 3 of the crappies had the entire vibe in their mouth. The crappies didn't start biting until closer to dark.

General Discussion / braided line
« on: March 23, 2016, 08:16:12 AM »
Is it necessary to use a mono backing when using braid on a spinning reel? I know you need mono as a backing on level wind trolling reels or else the braid can slip so it won't wind on the reel. Just wondered if slipping will happen on spinning reels too.

« on: March 18, 2016, 12:57:30 PM »
Fished Tuesday for stocked trout for about 2 hours in the morning. Caught 4 and missed a few . 2 caught on Cicadas and 2 on minnows. One 12 incher and the rest were 15 inches or so. Beautiful morning to be out and fun to catch the trout. Think I will give it a go for a few hours today.

General Discussion / Rocky Fork docks today
« on: March 12, 2016, 08:54:32 PM »
Fished rocky Fork's docks this afternoon and caught over a dozen crappies (most were keeper size), over 1/2 dozen bluegills ( no bulls) and a 10 inch saugeye. A very enjoyable trip and the temp was mid 60's. A 3/16 firetiger vibe and a 1/16 oz perch colored buckshot spoon tipped with a wax worm were the hot lures.

General Discussion / Wind wind go away
« on: January 10, 2016, 12:33:08 PM »
Temps for the next 2 weeks look great foe making ice. Now all we need is for the wind to die down so ice can be made. Hope we don't get snow util we have at least 6 inches of ice too. Hope we will be on ice this coming weekend but should definitely be on ice the following weekend. Make sure spud your way out and carry your safety gear. Be safe and enjoy.

General Discussion / Shirt sleeves on Christmas Eve
« on: December 24, 2015, 08:18:03 PM »
Fished Rocky Fork today with 30inthabucket in shirtsleeves. Just not right. A new year is coming and so is new hope for cold weather. Fishing was very slow. 30 caught gills, perch and crappies and I caught crappies. No keeper crappies but it was a nice spring, oh that's right - it's winter, day.
